Welcome to episode 125, a takeaway episode for my conversation with Heather Nawrocki, Vice President of Fun and Fulfillment at AARP on episode 124. On this episode, I share the possibility of mastering fulfillment in midlife through the joy of having fun. Three key points we discussed are:
1️⃣ Social connection is good for you.
2️⃣ Fun is for everyone at any age.
3️⃣ Fun across the 5 pillars of midlife.
If you’ve listened to the Midlife Fulfilled podcast for a while, you know that I am all about helping you aim for the most fulfillment you can achieve across the five pillars of midlife: health, fitness, career, relationships, and legacy. I explain this in detail in episode 100.
As it pertains to aiming for fun in your life, I think you should aim to have fun in each of these five pillars. If that sounds a little strange or maybe out of reach, I want to give you something to think about.
Fun is something different for all of us. Your version of fun and my version of fun probably are not the same. Some people love going to a live concert, others don’t want to be in a large crowd. That’s not “fun” for some people. In fact, people hate being in large crowds.
So, when it comes to these five pillars, I can’t suggest a “one size fits all” approach. But, I will offer you this to ponder in your midlife journey.
Each of these five pillars takes intention.
It takes intention to be mindful of your health.
It takes intention to be devoted to a fitness routine.
It takes intention to have a meaningful career.
It takes intention to have meaningful and healthy relationships.
It takes intention to plan to leave your legacy in this world.
I realize that we don’t intentionally plan each of these five pillars with the aim of having fun. What if we intentionally aimed to integrate at least some sort of fun into each pillar? What would that look like? Even though I can’t suggest a one-size-fits-all all approach, on this takeaway episode I take a stab at what this could look like.
Tune in and discover the possibilities of your own personal approach to integrating fun into each of the five pillars of midlife.
